Cellulite – Is That Really You?

February 24, 2009 by

cellulitereductionCellulite cialis canadian pharmacy describes a condition that occurs in men and women (although much more common in women) where the skin of the lower limbs, abdomen, and pelvic region becomes dimpled after puberty. The term was first used in the 1920s and began appearing in English language publications in the late 1960s, the earliest reference in Vogue magazine, “Like a swift migrating fish the word cellulite has suddenly crossed the Atlantic.”

Descriptive names for cellulite include orange peel syndrome, cottage cheese skin, the mattress phenomenon, and hail damage. Synonyms include: adiposis edematosa, dermopanniculosis deformans, status protrusus cutis, and gynoid lipodystrophy. Cellulite is unrelated to cellulitis, which is infection of the skin and its underlying connective tissue.

While there are many different products and treatments on the market that are designed to help reduce cellulite there is nothing better than to make lifestyle changes for a faster reduction in the cellulite that you might have.

These changes won’t cost anywhere near as much as the treatments and the results are generally a lot better.

So what are these changes that you can make to reduce your cellulite?

For a start you should always eat fresh food and eliminate where possible any processed and packaged foods.

Replacing fatty foods and foods that are high in sugar with food that is higher in protein would reduce your storage of fat. You should always be eating a certain amount of fresh fruit and vegetables each day.

Drinking sufficient water will also help you to maintain good health and in doing so will reduce the possibility of getting cellulite.

You do not have to be overweight to get cellulite and it is not unusual to see some girls who are quite slim with cellulite on the back of their legs (Read Paris Hilton). This is a sure sign that their lifestyle is out of balance or their nutrition is not good.

Obviously if you are overweight the incidence of you having cellulite will be higher.

Participating in regular exercise will also help to reduce cellulite and will stimulate the blood flow through your body and help to burn calories and fat.

In addition to making these lifestyle changes with a little extra exercise and good nutrition, you can also see some benefits by using a body brush to improve your skin texture.

You do have to remember however that most of the benefits towards eliminating cellulite will come from within.

Supplementation with a good multivitamin and mineral tablet daily also improves your health and in doing so will help to reduce the build up a fat that is causing your cellulite.

There is lot to gain by making minor changes to your daily diet intake and other nutrients, most people will see results in weeks without having to deprive themselves of food. The plan laid here is not only simple but a smart one.

Smart weight loss plans generally outline which foods are healthy and which ones should be avoided. It is essential to know just what kinds of foods are really hurting you.

a book report

Here are some examples of the tips that smart weight loss plans have to offer:

  • Carbohydrates, as well as sugars, provide a certain amount of energy you have. However, restricting the amount of carbohydrates and sugars you consume will cause the body to resort to stored fat in order to supply energy. Limiting your refined carbohydrates intake will go long way to help from gaining additional fat.
  • Eat smaller meals but more often. You will find that by increasing on your meal frequency will give you more energy, boost your metabolic rate, and simply accelerate your fat burning beyond anything you’ve every experienced before. Read the footnote on Insulin for more details
  • Drink plenty of water: You’ve heard this one a million times. Drinking eight to ten glasses of water per day, not only keeps the body hydrated, but it also flushes out all of the toxins and waste that is stored in the body.
  • If you approach the diet with a mentality that it will work and you stay on track you will get results. Its only when people begin trying to rationalize cheating or that the diet wasn’t working anyway that they will fail completely. Start Your Diet Today! if you haven’t started one yet.
  • Exercise – This could be as simple as 10-15 minute walk in the hallway after every meal to a 30 minute cardio every other day.

These steps are what I call Easy and Smart weight loss plans, they are extremely effective when they are followed consistently. They are also some of the easiest diet plans to stick to, as they do not make you feel sick, tired, or hungry.

Retaining Your Muscle Mass

February 19, 2009 by

muscle-massRetaining your muscle mass while on a weight loss program is one of the most important aspects that you need to concentrate on as this will help you to keep your fat percentage down long-term.

On the ultra low calorie diets the body begins to cannibalize its own muscle tissue as its defense mechanisms come into play.

An example of this is shown with some of these apparently slim fashion models who have quite high levels of body fat in proportion to their overall size.

The reason for this is the fact that they haven’t done any form of exercise or resistance training to maintain any reasonable level of muscle mass and this is only made worse by the fact that they are often eating a very low quality diet and nutrition is lacking.

It is not uncommon to see skinny models with cellulite and that is a sure sign that they are retaining fat in a higher percentage than they should be.

They would find that if they added a little bit of resistance training or even some form of decent exercise to their daily routine they would be able to still retain a slim figure but the body fat percentage would be considerably lower and they would look a lot more toned and healthy.

And healthy is what you should be aiming for when you go on a weight-loss program and not simply losing weight as actually improving your overall health and well-being will help you to live a better lifestyle for a lot longer.

Increasing your muscle mass also improves your metabolic rate whereas body fat has a very low level of metabolic activity. Nutritionists regard muscle as the furnace that burns in the body and this is what you should be aiming for. If more weight loss programs focused on retaining muscle mass people would be unlikely to put the weight back on rapidly once they finished the program.

5 Anti-Aging Tips Every Women Must Know

February 19, 2009 by

1. Relax

Think you are stressed out? Your body would react negatively to the stress and the end result of chronic stress is premature aging. Your DNA is affected over time. The part of the DNA associated with aging, the telomere, protects the DNA from damage. Well your telomeres fray away with aging and with the protection gone, the cell dies. Stressed out individuals display more badly damaged telomeres as compared to their peers who are better able to cope with stress.

If your work is too stressful, maybe a less stressful job might be in order. If you are overwhelmed at home, consider getting help from friends or relatives, or hiring help.

Find ways to cope with stress. Release tension with a run or a swim or go out for a walk to get away from it all, temporarily.

2. Quit smoking

Cigarette smoke ages your body prematurely in too many ways to list in this one article. If you smoke, quit. If you don’t smoke, don’t start. Stay away from smoking areas and keep away from smokers when they puff their cigarettes as second hand smoke is just as damaging.

3. Use Sunscreen at all times

Go for an SPF15 for full protection. The sun’s UV rays damage your skin at cellular level. Though your body rapidly repairs the damage, if the damage is too much, your skin gets red and blisters form as you develop a sunburn. Even a tan is a sign of skin damage as the darkening of the skin wit melanin is a defense mechanism against sun damage. UV rays damage the skin’s collagen

Sunblocks have chemical or physical sunscreens to block off the UV rays. SPF or Sun Protection Factor tells you how much longer you can stay in the sun before you burn. For example, an SPF 4 sunscreen allows you to stay in the sun 4 times longer than if you had gone without any protection.

For optimal protection, go for at least SPF15, and reapply frequently if you sweat a lot or get into the water.

4. Eat your fruit, veggies and nuts.

These are rich in antioxidants. To cut the long story short, we are constantly bombarded by free radicals. These could be the by product of oxidation within the body, through the body’s natural processes, or could be due to environmental factors.

Either way, free radicals wreak havoc on out bodies. Free radicals are unstable and steal electrons from their neighbors, rendering them unstable too, leading to a chain reaction. In this way, cell membranes and even the DNA of cells get damaged which in turn, speeds up the aging process.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by donating electrons to them and stabilizing them, even while they stay stable themselves. In this way, antioxidants eliminate the threat.

By eating your fruit and veggies and some nuts, you get the antioxidants your body needs to beat those free radicals.

5. Sleep at least 8 hours every night.

When you sleep, your body repairs itself most effectively, producing new cells to replace the old, worn out cells. By depriving yourself of sufficient sleep, you do not allow your body to regenerate itself properly and end up aging more quickly than you should. No doubt, this regeneration of cells is ongoing even when you are awake, but when you sleep, the natural renewal process is at its peak. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body produces more stress hormones that interfere with your skin’s collagen production. Collagen is what supports your skin and as collagen levels decrease your skin begins to sag and wrinkles form. Look at yourself after a sleepless night. Lack of sleep gives you puffy eyes and dark rings which makes you look much older.

So grandma was right after all. Eat your veggies, stay out of the sun and sleep early every night to preserve your youth.
